Licensed acute care general hospitals must perform psychological and psychiatric evaluations on patients being treated for drug overdoses before releasing them from the hospital

All health insurance plans in New Jersey must cover these mandatory evaluations, including hospital service corporations, medical service corporations, health maintenance organizations, and individual and group health policies

Coverage requirements extend to State Health Benefits Program and School Employees' Health Benefits Program contracts

Benefits for these evaluations must be provided to the same extent as coverage for any other medical condition under the insurance contract or policy

Takes effect on the first day of the seventh month following enactment, applying to all health benefits plans delivered, issued, executed, or renewed after that date
