Municipalities with outdoor firing ranges must enact zoning ordinances establishing safety guidelines, including requirements for signage displaying location and hours of operation, ammunition caliber/gauge limitations consistent with state law, and side and impact berm placement

Municipal governing bodies may include any additional safety requirements deemed necessary that are consistent with state law and Department of Law and Public Safety guidelines

Before adopting a firing range zoning ordinance, municipalities must provide public hearing notice to residents of the host municipality and residents of all municipalities located within one mile of the firing range

The bill amends the Municipal Land Use Law (P.L.1975, c.291) to add outdoor firing range safety guidelines as an authorized subject for municipal zoning ordinances
