Creates a new fourth-degree crime for anyone who knowingly or recklessly causes or allows a child to be exposed to sexual conduct through automated interactive computer technology (such as AI chatbots) capable of performing or simulating sexual conduct

Covers various forms of involvement with such AI technology, including creation, control, possession, manipulation, use, dissemination, sale, or promotion

Provides an exception for AI technology designed with safety features that prevent the system from engaging in sexual conduct when it detects the user is a child

Fourth-degree crime carries penalties of up to 18 months imprisonment, a fine of up to $10,000, or both

Amends existing child endangerment statute N.J.S.2C:24-4 to address concerns about AI chatbots that simulate sexual conversations with minors on social media platforms and the Internet
