Public institutions of higher education must award academic credit to students who score 3 or higher on Advanced Placement (AP) exams or 50 or higher on College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) assessments

Students must be pursuing an associate or baccalaureate degree and have completed the AP course/exam or CLEP assessment prior to college enrollment

Institutions must apply awarded credits to degree requirements "to the greatest extent feasible" and post their credit-awarding policies on their websites

Institutions must submit policies to the Secretary of Higher Education and provide 60 days notice before any policy changes take effect

The Secretary may grant course-by-course exemptions if institutions provide data showing different score thresholds are necessary for student success in advanced coursework
