Local government units in New Jersey would receive grants covering the full cost of developing and implementing forest stewardship plans, rather than the current cap of $1,500 to $2,500 available to other landowners.

At least 10 percent of the Global Warming Solutions Fund allocation for forest stewardship (which currently receives 10 percent of the overall fund) must be dedicated specifically to forest stewardship plan grants.

Private landowners and nonprofit organizations would continue receiving grants up to $1,500, plus 80 percent of costs exceeding that amount up to a $2,500 maximum.

The Department of Environmental Protection administers the Forest Stewardship Incentive Fund, which supports developing stewardship plans, department administration, and State forest management.
