Nursing mothers with children one year of age or younger who are breastfeeding or expressing milk are now eligible for exemption from jury service under the "severe hardship" category

The exemption applies when the prospective juror is the child's mother and is actively nursing or expressing milk for the child

This provision is added to existing exemption categories that include those 75 or older, recent jury service within three years, medical inability, financial hardship, and caregiving obligations

Volunteer firefighters and first aid/rescue squad members remain exempt from jury service under separate provisions

The law took effect immediately upon approval on April 22, 2025, applying to jurors impaneled on or after that date
