County fire instructors enrolled in the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) prior to November 1, 2008 would be granted service credit and eligibility for retirement benefits if they maintained continuous membership, performed fire instructor service each calendar year, earned more than $1,500 annually, and held permanent civil service status.

Fire instructors whose PERS membership was terminated within two years prior to the bill's enactment may reenroll by repaying any contributions and interest that were returned upon termination.

The bill addresses county fire instructors who were previously enrolled in PERS but later deemed ineligible due to irregular and limited work schedules associated with the position.
