Electric and gas public utilities in New Jersey must implement or maintain warranty programs that cover the full cost to repair or replace covered appliances including furnaces, water heaters, solar panels, HVAC systems, heat pumps, refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, grills, gas fireplaces, and space heaters.

Utilities must notify customers about the warranty program via bill inserts every billing cycle for one year following the law's effective date, using plain language to explain program elements and customer rights.

Customers already enrolled in existing warranty programs must be informed how the new program differs and how to terminate existing contracts to enroll in the new program.

The Board of Public Utilities cannot approve utility requests to recover program implementation costs through customer rates.

The law takes effect on the first day of the third month after enactment and applies to all contracts entered into on or after that date.
