Commissioner of Education must develop an emergency notification system for public and nonpublic schools to alert students, parents/guardians, teachers, and staff during active shooter situations on school grounds.

Parents, guardians, students (with parental permission), teachers, and staff may register mobile electronic devices including cell phones, tablets, and smartwatches to receive emergency notifications.

The notification system must be directly linked to local law enforcement or State Police-designated locations and immediately transmit alerts upon activation.

Schools must receive the notification system at no cost, and the system must be compatible with all makes and models of mobile devices.

Individual schools that adopt the system must customize it with contact information for all registered recipients.
