Licensed acupuncturists in New Jersey would be authorized to order diagnostic tests including x-rays, CT scans, MRIs, bone scans, electrodiagnostic tests, bioanalytical laboratory tests, and hormone saliva tests

"Expanded practice" authority would allow licensed acupuncturists to prescribe, administer, inject, compound, and dispense substances including homeopathic medicines, sterile water, saline solution, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, lidocaine, procaine, and herbal extracts

Previously licensed acupuncturists may obtain expanded practice certification by completing at least 8 hours of diagnostic test ordering training, 60 hours of injection therapy coursework, and 40 hours of intravenous therapy training with passage of the National IV Association examination

National IV Association certification must be renewed biennially with 25 continuing education credits required for renewal eligibility

The act takes effect on the first day of the 10th month following enactment and applies to new licensure applications and renewals after that date
