Farm tractors and traction equipment used for farm operations and registered with the Motor Vehicle Commission would be exempt from the $1.5 million commercial motor vehicle liability insurance requirement

Owners of farm tractors and traction equipment would instead be required to maintain a minimum liability coverage of $300,000, the same level required for commercial vehicles with gross weight ratings between 10,001 and 26,000 pounds

The bill amends P.L.1972, c.197 (C.39:6B-1) to redefine "commercial motor vehicle" to specifically exclude registered farm equipment from the higher $1.5 million coverage tier

The reduced coverage requirement applies to bodily injury, death, or property damage arising from any one accident
