Each public institution of higher education in New Jersey must develop and implement a food waste reduction program on every campus

Unused, excess food from campus dining halls, facilities, and events must be redirected to local food security programs such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and community nonprofits

All food safety standards must be maintained throughout the selection, packaging, and transfer of donated food

Public institutions must submit annual reports to the Governor and Legislature detailing their contributions to local food security programs and post these reports on their websites

The bill takes effect immediately upon enactment
