Health insurance plans in New Jersey must cover scalp cooling systems for patients undergoing cancer chemotherapy treatment, with benefits provided to the same extent as any other covered condition

Scalp cooling systems are defined as reusable devices designed to cool the scalp to prevent or reduce hair loss during chemotherapy

Coverage requirements apply to all major insurance types including hospital service corporations, medical service corporations, health service corporations, HMOs, individual and group health policies, and State/School Employees' Health Benefits Program contracts

Physicians administering chemotherapy must inform patients about scalp cooling therapy as an option to prevent hair loss before treatment begins, and document this discussion in the patient's medical record

The act takes effect 180 days after enactment and applies to insurance contracts delivered, issued, executed, or renewed on or after that date
