Jointure commissions may provide transportation services to local school districts using school buses they own or lease without going through the public bidding process

Under current law, jointure commissions must follow public bidding requirements when providing transportation to school districts that were not members of the commission as of January 1, 2004

The bill amends P.L.2005, c.84 to treat jointure commissions the same as other public entities (such as educational services commissions and county special services school districts) that provide pupil transportation with their own buses

Jointure commissions using their own buses are exempted from requirements including bid advertisements, quotation submissions, contract renewal procedures, and the prohibition on preparing transportation specifications

The change is intended to allow jointure commissions to provide transportation services in a more cost-effective manner
