Certified school nurses must develop individualized health care plans and individualized emergency health care plans for students with life-threatening allergies or anaphylaxis when parents request care at school.

Parents must provide annual written authorization for care outlined in the plans, including authorization for emergency epinephrine administration and optional student self-management of allergies.

Plans must be updated annually based on the student's health care provider orders and whenever the student's health status changes.

Required plan components include symptoms and treatment of allergic reactions, accommodations for field trips and after-school activities, staff education on recognizing and treating anaphylaxis, and communication protocols with families and health care teams.

School nurses must coordinate care and ensure all relevant staff—including those working school-sponsored programs outside regular hours—receive training on caring for students with life-threatening allergies.
