Pool and spa service businesses in New Jersey would be required to obtain a business permit from the Pool and Spa Service Contractors and Pool and Spa Builders and Installers Advisory Committee before performing any work.

Permitted businesses must employ at least one person holding a valid pool and spa builder and installer license or pool and spa service contractor license, pay required fees, and renew permits every three years.

A permitted pool and spa service business would be authorized to serve as a general contractor for all aspects of pool and spa building, installation, and service contracting, provided specialized work is performed by appropriately licensed professionals.

Subcontractors working under a permitted pool and spa service business would not need to obtain a separate license but must perform work under the supervision of the permitted business.

The bill takes effect on the first day of the 10th month following enactment and amends P.L.2019, c.22 (the existing pool and spa licensing law).
