Licensed law enforcement officers with active certification in basic police or State Police training may receive probationary or temporary appointments as State or county investigators for up to 120 days to complete basic investigator training and certification.

Officers holding probationary or temporary investigator appointments may perform full investigator duties during the appointment period while completing their training.

Upon successful completion of the probationary or temporary appointment, officers may apply to the Police Training Commission for permanent investigator licensure.

The probationary or temporary appointment remains in effect until the Police Training Commission acts on the permanent licensure application.
