Boards of education and boards of trustees of charter schools and renaissance school projects must adopt policies governing surveillance systems with AI capabilities, including video surveillance, x-ray machines, and body scanners.

Required policies must identify what information is collected through the surveillance system and explain how the board plans to utilize that information.

Schools must post signage in prominent public places in buildings and on school grounds indicating that AI-capable surveillance systems are in use.

Policies must address data access procedures in compliance with state and federal student records laws and the Uniform State Memorandum of Agreement Between Education and Law Enforcement Officials.

Boards must distribute the adopted policy to parents and guardians of students, with the requirements taking effect for the first full school year following enactment.
