Upgrades simple assault against sports officials at school- or community-sponsored youth sports events from a disorderly persons offense to aggravated assault under New Jersey law

Defines "sports official" broadly to include referees, umpires, timers, scorers, coaches, athletic trainers, managers, and assistants, whether compensated or volunteer

Creates a fourth-degree crime (up to 18 months imprisonment, up to $10,000 fine) when no bodily injury occurs, and a third-degree crime (3-5 years imprisonment, up to $15,000 fine) when bodily injury results

Applies to assaults committed while the official is clearly identifiable as performing duties or because of their status as a sports official

Takes effect on the first day of the fourth month following enactment
