NJ A1598

Prohibits expungement of any criminal conviction, arrest, or charge involving domestic violence as defined under New Jersey law, regardless of whether the case resulted in a conviction, dismissal, acquittal, or discharge.

Adds domestic violence crimes to the existing list of serious offenses permanently barred from expungement, which already includes murder, kidnapping, human trafficking, sexual assault, and arson.

Removes the automatic expungement provision for domestic violence-related arrests where proceedings were dismissed, the person was acquitted, or charges were dropped without a conviction.

Applies to both indictable crimes and disorderly persons/petty disorderly persons offenses involving domestic violence.

Takes effect 90 days following enactment.
