Health care providers diagnosing or treating breast cancer must concurrently order bilateral ultrasound, MRI, 3D mammography, or other additional breast testing when ordering a mammogram for women with additional breast cancer risk factors.

All health insurers, including hospital service corporations, medical service corporations, HMOs, and individual/group health plans, must cover the additional breast imaging tests when ordered concurrently with a mammogram.

Coverage requirements apply to the State Health Benefits Program and School Employees' Health Benefits Program.

The bill takes effect on the first day of the fourth month following enactment, applying to all new and renewed insurance contracts and policies after that date.

The Commissioner of Health is authorized to adopt rules and regulations to implement the concurrent ordering requirements.
