Landlords cannot limit acceptable rent payment methods to only cash, personal check, credit/debit card, or any other specific form—they must accept all of these payment types from tenants.

Landlords are prohibited from requiring tenants to pay rent at any location outside the building where the tenant resides.

No fees may be charged to tenants for paying rent by cash, check, or credit/debit card, or for paying at any location inside or outside the building.

Violations constitute a disorderly persons offense, punishable by up to six months imprisonment, a fine of up to $1,000, or both.

Applies to all residential leases, renewals, or extensions executed on or after the date of enactment.
