Public service employers in New Jersey must certify employment for qualifying employees under the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program, either by completing PSLF forms or sharing data directly with the U.S. Department of Education.

Educators receive a 3.35-hour credit for each hour of lecture or classroom time when calculating full-time status for PSLF certification purposes.

Employers must provide completed PSLF forms annually to employees who previously had employment certified, upon request, and upon separation from employment.

The Secretary of Higher Education must develop promotional materials about PSLF, including a standardized letter, fact sheet, and FAQ document, in consultation with the Student Loan Ombudsman.

Public service employers must distribute PSLF informational materials to all employees annually and to new hires within 30 days of their start date.
