Amends N.J.S.2C:39-5 to explicitly permit law enforcement officers employed by schools, colleges, universities, or other educational institutions to possess firearms on campus during employment duties and while commuting to or from work

Defines "law enforcement officer" for this provision as a person empowered to detect, apprehend, arrest, and convict offenders who has successfully completed a firearms training course administered by the Police Training Commission

Creates an exception to the existing third-degree crime prohibition against possessing firearms on educational institution grounds without written authorization from the governing officer

Applies to all levels of educational institutions including K-12 schools, colleges, and universities in New Jersey

Takes effect immediately upon enactment
