Licensed health care professionals who provide uncompensated care at licensed health care facilities or nonprofit free-standing clinics would be granted immunity from civil liability for personal injuries resulting from that care.

The immunity does not apply to acts or omissions that constitute gross negligence or willful/wanton misconduct, which must be proven by clear and convincing evidence.

Covered professionals include physicians, nurses, dentists, physician assistants, psychologists, pharmacists, chiropractors, physical therapists, and other state-licensed health care practitioners regulated under Title 45 or Title 52.

Health care professionals must inform patients of the immunity protection before providing any uncompensated care or treatment.

The law would take effect 60 days after enactment and apply only to care rendered on or after that effective date.
