Emergency shelter operators may bring eviction actions against occupants who refuse to vacate after their authorized stay period expires under existing New Jersey law (C.55:13C-2.2)

Shelter operators can apply to the Department of Community Affairs for reimbursement of costs incurred and revenue lost while eviction proceedings were pending against non-compliant occupants

Reimbursement applications must be submitted within 30 calendar days after the evicted occupant is served a warrant for removal

Applications must include the shelter name, date range, requested reimbursement amount, and supporting documentation of the occupant's refusal to vacate and subsequent eviction action

Annual appropriations from the General Fund to the Department of Community Affairs are required to fund the reimbursement program
