Licensed health care professionals providing prenatal care must offer postpartum depression screenings to pregnant patients who have a history of depression, and provide the screening upon patient request.

Amends existing New Jersey law (P.L.2000, c.167) that already requires postnatal screening for postpartum depression by adding a new prenatal screening requirement for at-risk patients.

The Commissioner of Health, State Board of Medical Examiners, and New Jersey Board of Nursing are directed to develop policies implementing this new prenatal screening requirement alongside existing postpartum depression policies.

Applies to physicians, nurse midwives, and other licensed health care professionals who provide prenatal care services.

Takes effect immediately upon enactment.
