Governor must issue a writ of election within 10 days of a U.S. House of Representatives vacancy occurring, replacing the current unspecified timeframe

When the unexpired term is 180 days or more, a special primary election must be held 70-76 days after the writ, followed by a special election 64-70 days after the primary

When the unexpired term is between 135-180 days, a special election will be held 70-76 days after the writ with no primary; political parties select candidates through their internal process

No election will be held if the unexpired term is less than 135 days, changed from the current six-month (approximately 180 days) threshold

Election notice publication requirements reduced from weekly publication until the election to a single publication at least 45 days prior to the election
