Juveniles adjudicated delinquent for a third or subsequent offense of motor vehicle theft, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, catalytic converter theft, or eluding law enforcement would face a mandatory one-year incarceration term under this bill.

Current law requires 60 days of community service for first and second offenses involving motor vehicle theft, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, or third-degree eluding.

The mandatory incarceration provision would replace the 60-day community service requirement only for third and subsequent violations of these specific offenses.

The bill amends P.L.1982, c.77 (N.J.S.A. 2A:4A-43), which governs disposition options for juvenile delinquency cases in New Jersey.

The bill would take effect on the first day of the fourth month following enactment.
