New Jersey Department of Education must establish and maintain a central registry of high school student-athletes who sustain concussions or head injuries during interscholastic sports, intramural sports, or cheerleading programs.

Coaches must immediately notify the athletic director or designated person when a student sustains a concussion or head injury during participation.

Athletic directors must enter injury data into the registry weekly, including type of injury, sport involved, specific incident details, student age, days missed before return clearance, and medical treatment information.

Registry purpose is to collect data on rates, patterns, and trends of head injuries to develop evidence-based injury prevention protocols.

All student identifying information in the registry must be kept confidential.
