School districts in New Jersey must maintain all public school restrooms in good working order and update or renovate them as needed.

Restrooms must be cleaned and sanitized daily and contain functioning toilets and sinks free of leaks or plumbing issues.

Required amenities include fully stocked toilet paper holders, functional stall doors that can open, close, and lock, and working hand dryers or stocked paper towel dispensers.

Restrooms must have trash bins and menstrual product disposal units that maintenance staff empty at regular intervals.

The Commissioner of Education will adopt rules and regulations to implement these requirements, with the act taking effect immediately upon passage.
