Adult school crossing guards in New Jersey would be ineligible for unemployment insurance benefits during periods between academic years, vacation periods, or holiday recesses if they have reasonable assurance of returning to work

Crossing guards would automatically be presumed to have reasonable assurance of employment for the next term unless they receive written notice by May 15 that their appointment will not be renewed

The municipality's governing body, chief executive, or chief administrative officer must provide written notice to any crossing guard who will not be reappointed for the following term

Crossing guards denied benefits under this provision would be entitled to retroactive payment if they were not ultimately offered an opportunity to return to work for the subsequent academic year or term

The bill amends P.L.1979, c.82 (C.40A:9-154.1) and R.S.43:21-4, with provisions applying to weeks of unemployment beginning after June 30, 2012
