Law enforcement officers must secure and remove illegal drugs being used in the presence of a child when a parent or guardian requests the child's removal from that home, placing the drugs into evidence per state law.

Officers must forward information about such requests to the State Central Registry for referral to a child protective investigator to assess possible child abuse or neglect.

Officers must request an immediate response from a child protective investigator and coordinate in the investigation at the investigator's request.

The Department of Children and Families and Department of Law and Public Safety must adopt rules and regulations to implement these procedures.

The bill takes effect immediately upon enactment.
