For-profit movie theaters in New Jersey showing first-run motion pictures may obtain a plenary retail consumption license to sell alcoholic beverages on premises, with approval from both the municipal governing body and the Director of the Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

Alcohol sales are permitted during the two hours immediately before showings and during the screening of first-run motion pictures only.

Initial license fee is at least $210,000, paid in three installments (at issuance, 9 months, and 18 months), but reduces to $150,000 if 10% of alcoholic beverages sold are produced by New Jersey craft breweries, wineries, cideries, meaderies, or distilleries.

Licenses cannot be transferred to non-movie theater premises and do not count against municipal limits on consumption licenses based on population.

Takes effect on the first day of the fourth month following enactment, with annual renewal applications required to the municipal governing body.
