New Jersey Legislature urges Congress and the President to enact legislation comparable to the bipartisan "Eviction Crisis Act of 2019" and "Family Stability and Opportunity Vouchers Act of 2019" to address the national housing and eviction crisis.

The Eviction Crisis Act would improve data collection and analysis on evictions, reduce preventable evictions, and enhance tenant screening report information.

The Family Stability and Opportunity Vouchers Act would create 500,000 additional housing vouchers over five years for low-income families with young children.

In 2016, 2.3 million eviction filings occurred nationally with 1 in 50 renters evicted; in 2018, over 150,000 New Jersey families faced eviction, with 75% of impoverished renting families spending at least half their income on housing.

Three out of four low-income households needing housing assistance are denied federal help due to chronic underfunding, while six million families with children lack stable housing or live in unsafe or overcrowded conditions.
