Nursing is the largest healthcare profession in the United States with approximately 4.7 million registered nurses nationwide, and women make up 88.5% of the workforce.

Requests the Governor to annually issue a proclamation calling upon public officials and citizens to observe the day with appropriate activities and programs.

Aligns with the American Nurses Association's 1982 declaration of May 6 as Nurses Day, which was affirmed by a joint resolution of the United States Congress.
