New Jersey Assembly Resolution urging the President and Congress to continue the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program and reject proposals to eliminate it

PSLF Program, established in 2007 under 20 U.S.C. s.1087e, forgives student loan debt for public servants who make 120 qualifying monthly payments while working full-time for government or nonprofit organizations

As of December 31, 2019, approximately 1,565 borrowers received loan discharges totaling nearly $100 million through the program

Resolution opposes the Fiscal Year 2021 Presidential Budget proposal to completely eliminate the PSLF program

Eligible public service careers include teachers, military service members, police officers, firefighters, first responders, public sector attorneys, and social/medical service providers
