New Jersey Assembly Resolution celebrates the 250th anniversary of the United States Postal Service, founded July 26, 1775 with Benjamin Franklin as first Postmaster General.

The USPS has grown from 75 post offices serving 4 million people in 1789 to over 31,000 post offices serving 342 million Americans, delivering 112 billion pieces of mail annually to 168 million addresses.

Urges Congress to ensure the USPS remains a public institution serving every household in every zip code regardless of geography, expressing concern about privatization threats.

The USPS employs over 500,000 career workers including nearly 70,000 veterans, operates 33,000 retail locations, and processes 44% of the world's mail volume and 7.9 million passport applications annually.

Copies of the resolution will be transmitted to the Postmaster General, New Jersey USPS District Manager, and all New Jersey members of Congress.
