School board members may participate in volunteer activities within their district if they comply with the School Ethics Act and this bill's requirements

Board members are prohibited from volunteering in activities where they give direct orders to school personnel or become involved in day-to-day school administration

Board members cannot volunteer in activities where they direct students, personnel, resources, or funds on a regular, frequent basis, or where they are directed by school staff on a regular basis

Before volunteering, board members must obtain consent from the superintendent and overseeing staff, and must inform participants that their involvement is in an individual capacity, not as a board member
