Persons with disabilities seeking New Jersey civil service positions may request a written exemption from the required competitive examination if the Civil Service Commission determines they are otherwise qualified to perform the job duties

Proof of disability must be provided before appointment, accepted as either medical professional certification or documentation of participation in qualifying programs such as Social Security Disability Insurance, Supplemental Security Income, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services, or Division of Developmental Disabilities

Disability records are designated as confidential and exempt from open public records requirements, except for administration and statistical purposes

The Civil Service Commission and Division of Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action must jointly develop implementing rules and regulations

The law takes effect six months after enactment, with agencies permitted to take preparatory administrative actions in advance
