New Jersey Department of Education would reimburse school bus drivers for the cost of obtaining a commercial driver license (CDL) and all required endorsements when employed by eligible public school districts

Eligible districts are defined as public school districts that own and operate their own buses without using contracted transportation services

Drivers must commit to five years of employment, maintain their CDL with required endorsements, and complete all state and federal training requirements to qualify for reimbursement

Drivers who leave before completing five years must repay the reimbursement: 100% repayment if employed three years or less, 50% repayment if employed four years

The bill takes effect immediately upon enactment
