Permanent law enforcement officers with active basic training certification for police officers or State Police may receive probationary or temporary appointments as State or county investigators for up to 120 days to complete basic investigator training and certification.

Officers holding these probationary or temporary investigator appointments are authorized to perform full functions and duties of permanently appointed investigators during the appointment period.

Upon successful completion of the probationary or temporary appointment, officers may apply to the Police Training Commission for permanent investigator licensure.

The probationary or temporary appointment remains valid until the Police Training Commission acts on the permanent licensure application.
