Public high school students observing Ramadan may substitute required physical education courses with an instructional course or study hall for the marking period containing Ramadan, receiving equivalent graduation credits

Students must submit written notice to the school principal before schedule creation for the marking period to exercise this option

Student-athletes observing Ramadan may be excused from interscholastic sports, intramural sports, or cheerleading programs for the duration of Ramadan by submitting written notice to their coach

Coaches are prohibited from penalizing student-athletes who elect to be excused from participation during Ramadan

The bill does not exempt students from the required two and one-half hours per week of health and safety education courses
