Municipalities containing decommissioned nuclear power plants that store spent nuclear fuel onsite may impose an annual stranded nuclear waste fee on the plant owner by ordinance

The fee is calculated by multiplying the kilograms of spent nuclear fuel stored at the facility by a per-kilogram rate set by the municipality, capped at $15.00 per kilogram

Revenue collected from the stranded nuclear waste fee must be used solely to reduce the municipal property tax levy

The bill takes effect immediately upon enactment and applies for each calendar year spent nuclear fuel remains stored at the decommissioned facility
