New Jersey Department of Education would be required to develop and maintain a publicly available list of textbook vendors that incorporate "inclusive material" covering diversity in gender, race, ethnicity, disability, gender identity or expression, and sexual orientation.

School districts must select new textbooks only from vendors on the DOE-approved list when acquiring new instructional materials.

Districts may petition the Commissioner of Education for approval to use a textbook vendor not currently on the approved list.

Exemptions apply to textbooks obtained through the Statewide textbook bank and replacement textbooks needed due to damage or loss.

The bill would take effect on the first day of the nineteenth month following enactment.
