NJ Transit employees and contracted motorbus operators providing regular route service must complete a one-time training course on handling and responding to suspected human trafficking activities.

NJ Transit, in consultation with the Commission on Human Trafficking, will develop the training course or approve a substantially similar course from a recognized nonprofit with public transportation training experience.

Current employees must complete training within two years of enactment; new employees must complete it within six months of hire.

All human trafficking training courses (for police, hotel/motel staff, healthcare workers, judges, and transit employees) must include demonstrations of known signs and signals used by trafficking victims seeking assistance.

The bill takes effect 90 days after enactment and does not apply to existing contracts between NJ Transit and private motorbus service providers.
