New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) and South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) must send written notice of toll violations within 60 days, including the nature, date, time, and location of the alleged violation.

Vehicle owners receive a 30-day grace period from the date of the written notice to pay the unpaid toll and remedy the violation without incurring administrative fees.

Written notices must include information about the process for remedying violations and a warning that failure to act within 30 days will result in administrative fees.

Administrative fees cannot be issued or collected unless the required written notice has been provided and the 30-day remedy period has expired.

Vehicle lessors can avoid liability by submitting the rental agreement or lease document identifying the lessee who was using the vehicle at the time of the violation.
