County prosecutors must notify the Director of the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability before beginning any criminal investigation into allegations of misconduct by State, county, or municipal law enforcement officers.

The Office of Public Integrity and Accountability is required to supervise these criminal investigations to ensure they are conducted objectively.

The Attorney General may supersede the county prosecutor and take over any investigation, criminal action, or proceeding involving law enforcement misconduct if the Attorney General determines it furthers State interests.

The Attorney General must issue or amend guidelines and directives to implement these requirements.

The bill takes effect on the first day of the fourth month after enactment.
