New Jersey public school districts must incorporate cursive handwriting instruction into the curriculum for students in kindergarten through grade five.

Students are required to achieve proficiency in both reading and writing cursive legibly by the end of grade three.

The curriculum must include activities and instructional materials specifically designed to develop cursive skills.

The requirement takes effect immediately and applies starting with the first full school year following enactment.
