School districts in New Jersey would be required to arrange, maintain, and pay premiums for student accident insurance policies, changing the current law that makes this optional.

The bill repeals N.J.S.18A:43-2, which currently allows school districts to require parents or guardians to pay a proportionate share of accident insurance premiums.

The accident insurance typically serves as secondary coverage, paying medical costs not fully covered by a student's family insurance plan.

The law would take effect immediately and first apply to the first full school year following enactment.
